Jerry

[Verse 1]
Some people come in loud like thunder
Some come rolling like the rain
I grew up inside the weather
Never knew a softer name
Then a quiet boy in music class
Looked up and stilled the storm in me

[Chorus]
You are safe, you are steady
You're the calm when the sky turns gray
You're the truest love of my life
And I thank God every day
Oh Jerry, you're my harbor
You're where my heart comes home to stay

[Verse 2]
October fifteen, eighty-six
One look and I just knew
Windows down in that Challenger
Seventy-three, just me and you
You never had to raise your voice
To show the gentle man you'd be

[Chorus]
You are safe, you are steady
You're the calm when the sky turns gray
You're the truest love of my life
And I thank God every day
Oh Jerry, you're my harbor
You're where my heart comes home to stay

[Bridge]
Forty years and I still need
To lay my head upon your chest
Where your heartbeat is my heartbeat
That's the only place I rest

[Verse 3]
I've never wanted, never needed
You gave me more than I could dream
You showed me love can be so gentle
Soft as a slow and quiet stream
So hold me close tonight, my Dummy
Let's go riding once again

[Chorus]
You are safe, you are steady
You're the calm when the sky turns gray
You're the truest love of my life
For forty years and every day
Oh Jerry, you're my harbor
You're where my heart will always stay

[Outro]
Forty years, and I'd choose you again
My quiet man, my steady friend
Can't end the day without your heartbeat
Darling, that's where my heart begins
